Not too long after TRON: Legacy came out, my sister took me to see a “sampler plate” of ballet at one of our local performing arts venues. One of the things this sampler included was selections from The Firebird Suite. I absolutely loved the pas de deux, and I thought it would be a lot of fun to do a mashup of TRON and Firebird, because, hey, who doesn’t like glow-lines and fancy dancin’?
This is a layered, multi-media piece. The characters were done with ink, watercolor, and Prismacolor pencils, and “Firebird” has Swarovski crystals on her cyber-feathers. The deep background behind the green decoration on the left is comprised of old circuit boards.
I also hooked this thing up with a green electro-luminescence line, but I couldn’t get that to scan at all. Instead, I simulated the effect I wanted with Photoshop. In real life, it’s all backlit faintly by neon green.
For anyone interested, the original piece that OP so beautifully reworked is a miniature from Roman de la Rose depicting Amour kissing the Lover. Southern Netherlands (Bruges), c. 1490-1500.
